About Toronto Housing Society

Combines the mission/identity copy with a durable history section, removing dated statistics (post-review counts, download counts, country-engagement numbers) that need to stay current rather than hard-coded. Rewritten to drop overstated "Market Governance"/"Legal Void Defense" framing from the old dashboard-style layout, in favour of plain description. A separate case-study page about the 2026 migration/redesign is a distinct future content item, not drafted here.

Toronto Housing Society (TOHS) is a grassroots, volunteer-led team building projects to give Torontonians access to affordable, dignified housing options while educating and unifying the rental community. Our guiding principle: community, education, housing for all. What we do: TOHS combines community moderation (Toronto Home Zone), public tools (search, market insights, posting guidance), and renter education (knowledge base, templates, rights information) to support people navigating Toronto's rental market -- including the "hidden" peer-to-peer market of roommate searches, lease assignments, and private landlords that institutional reports typically miss. Where it started: Toronto Home Zone began in 2015, originally within the former Bunz ecosystem, before growing into an independent community under Deneille Macas's leadership -- shifting from a listing group where toxicity was often tolerated into a rights-focused community that prioritizes education, dignity, and scam-free housing. How we operate: all posts and profiles are manually screened by a volunteer team to keep the community safe and trusted. We enforce posting rules, a rent cap, and human rights compliance before a listing is approved.
